Today

Thanks very much for donating to the Terry Fox Foundation today! The run was a lot of fun!
Try playing the card game subtraction war this week. We tried it today and it was a lot of fun!

We also learned how to conduct a survey and organize the data we collected. We displayed our results on a pictograph. Check out Instagram for a video.

Owl Picture Day!

We had a very fun Friday. We had buddies with the Kindergarten's in Mrs. Fogel' s class. We played with them and watched a Go Noodle. Next time we will have partners and we will read to them. We are very excited to read with our buddies next week.

Today we also had picture day. We all looked fantastic! Mrs. Brick even came to take a picture with us. We all had to smile and make a pose so that our picture looked good. We can't wait for you to see our class photo.

We also learned about Terry Fox today. We watched a video on Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope. We learned that he had an artificial leg and he ran to Thunder Bay. He wanted to run all across Canada, but he did not make it all the way because his got cancer in his lungs and had to stop running. It surprised  me in the video when he stopped running to ask to go to the hospital. Next week, we have the Terry Fox Run on Wednesday.

At the end of the day we finished up some work and then we got some Choice time!

Have a nice weekend!!

The Owl's Busy Monday

We had a very busy day today in Room 15!

This morning we saw Bus driver Bob. Bus driver Bob told us all about the 4 rules inside and outside the bus.
Some of those rules were:
Outside the bus: Never go behind the bus. Don't go in the danger zone.
Inside the bus: Never distract the driver.
Safety: In case there is an emergency, we go out the back door, the window and the top window.

Bus Driver Bob even gave us bracelets today as a thank you for coming to bus ridership.

We worked as a team today and talked about our Above the lines, below the lines and Bottom lines for Room 15. For example, we chose to put Blurting under our below the line because we decided that it is something that could be easily fixed with reminders. We decided it was something we really need to work on. It was so important we put it 2 times!

Today, Ms. Klaus introduced us to our Writer's Notebook. We can draw, write stories and basically do whatever we want in them as long as we are writing.

At the end of the day, we had a fire drill. It was good to practice. I thought it was a lot of fun and we got to enjoy some of the beautiful weather.

Fun Friday!

Today we reviewed odd and even numbers.  We listened to a story called Even Steven and Odd Todd.  We added a new math game to our binder and bingo chips to our math kits.
We read, "Have You Filled Someone's Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud.  We discussed in our table groups, "What kind of person do you want to be?" and "What is my job at school?".
We continued with our owl art project and some of us got to start painting our owls with watercolour.

At the end of the day we got our first choice time!  It was a fun way to end the day.
Have a great weekend!

Ask Me

Today we talked about objects and materials. We set up a store and sorted a variety of objects into categories. The categories were based on the different types of materials they were made from. Can you guess what types of materials are on our store shelves?

All week we have been practicing what "Read to Self" looks like and sounds like. We just completed 7 minutes of "Read to Self" and we will try for 9 by the end of the week.

Today we brought home our math bags. They are located in the binder that goes home each night and comes back each morning. Try playing the "Pairs That Make Ten" card game that we learned at school. We need to have the pairs that make ten memorized.

Here is a short video on the card game action today!

Our First Day

Welcome back everyone!
This morning we were welcomed with warm messages from the Lakewood teachers on the sidewalks!
Today Ms. Klaus read the book, "Pirates go to School" by Corinne Demas.  It was a cute story about a pirate's life at school.
After reading the book, we talked about all of the things we want to learn about this year at school (Oceans, Trees, Tower in Paris, Waterfalls, Titanic, Kangaroos, Volcanoes, Making Types of Liquids, Machines & Boats,  Birds, Sharks, Pigs, Tornadoes, Lightning, Water Spouts, Owls, People Around the World, Our Bodies, The Water Cycle, Multiplication, To Read Big Words, and Many More Animals).
We were each given a puzzle piece to decorate and we had to work together to create a classroom puzzle.  It was in the shape of an owl!
Please remember to bring in those family photos for our "Family Wall".
It was a great first day back at school!  See you on Monday!
