Today was a great day! We worked very hard in math class this morning, then we played a "Bump" game. Look in the front pocket of the agenda and play it at home. Use cereal, raisins, goldfish crackers for the game pieces. In the afternoon we tried "Read to Self" and "Read to Someone". It was fun to use the learning carpet to graph our favourite fruits. We grouped them into the colours of the rainbow. Remember to try and "Eat Your Colours"! We had gym and read, "Enemy Pie" at the end of the day. Ask me what the story was about! Here are a few pictures from today:

What Do Shoes And Books Have In Common??
Today, during our Daily 5 period, we learned about how choosing appropriate shoes is much the same as choosing appropriate reading material. "Just because it's a nice shoe/book, doesn't mean it is the right one for your activity/ability." For this reason, we follow the "I PICK good fit books rule".

What A Great Day!!
Today was a fantastic day in Room 15! Our owls are amazing!
Some of the highlights from today...
- Wrote in our agendas for the first time
(please remember to read it, sign it and return it daily)
-Picked new books from the classroom library
-Learned about our classroom bell (ask me)
-Learned about Check 5 (ask me)
- We coloured our individual puzzle pieces
-We went out for a playground walk
-We went to gym
- We read "Clark the Shark" and learned how to "stay cool"
- We discussed, wrote about and drew our favourite summer memories
-Made our new "Welcome" sign (look to the left)
- We went to library
-We went to music
It was a super crazy, super awesome first day!
Eager and ready for a fresh new year!
In all of the hustle and bustle, we were able to find our shelves and put our outdoor shoes away.
We did lots of talking and sharing about grade 2 and 3, our summers and fun things that we enjoy.
We had recess of course...
and more recess! It was so fun to reconnect with our friends!
We took a tour of the playground to discuss safety rules, fire drills and school boundaries. Besides all of the wasps, we had a great discussion and learned so much!
Wow, we already know how to choose good books and read them independently.
We would like to thank all of our amazing students for such a great first day! Have a wonderful weekend and we can't wait to see you next week!
Love,
Mrs. Brick & Mrs. Yard

Thank You Lakewood School Volunteers
To all of our volunteers...we appreciate all that you do! We hope you feel the love and were able to attend today's Volunteer Tea. We really enjoyed our field trip to the zoo yesterday, and it wouldn't of been possible without your help and support!
We can't thank you enough!!!
We performed a song at the Vounteer Tea today to the tune of "We Will Rock You!"
The lyrics are below and possibly a video to come:
Hey you're a star at Lakewood, helping in the school, working up a sweat all day,
You got a smile on your face, tying a shoe lace, going on field trips all over the place!
Singing, we wanna, we wanna, thank you!
We wanna, we wanna, thank you!
Hey you're brave at Lakewood, helping in the school, taking on the germs all day,
You got a smile on your face, fearless with grace, washing sticky hands all over the place!
We wanna, we wanna, thank you!
We wanna, we wanna, thank you!
Hey you're a gem at Lakewood, helping in the school, doing good deeds all day,
You got a smile on your face, at a marathon pace, working your magic all over the place!
We wanna, we wanna, thank you!
Sing it!
We wanna, we wanna, thank you!
Everybody!
We wanna, we wanna, thank you!
We wanna, we wanna, THANK YOU!
